Marvel's 'Peggy Carter' TV Series with Hayley Atwell Actually Happening?

Marvel's rumored 'Peggy Carter' series may actually be happening - with Hayley Atwell.

A source has spoken out to the The Daily Mirror, claiming that the "big budget" series will potentially air alongside AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC.

The insider told the publication: "This is a massive deal for both Hayley and Marvel comic fans. Hayley is absolutely thrilled to have the opportunity and is incredibly grateful to Marvel fans who have basically been campaigning for a spin-off show for the past six months. It means moving to LA for six months but her friends and family are all behind her, and this is a huge opportunity."

Until there's a more concrete confirmation - or denial - take the rumor with a grain of salt. Or two.

The Hollywood Reporter announced in September that Marvel was looking to develop a potential series following CAPTAIN AMERICA's Peggy Carter, aptly titled AGENT CARTER.

The original report noted: "Agent Carter is a one-shot set to be released Sept. 24 as an extra on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray. Agent Cartertakes place a year after the events of Captain America: The First Avenger and follows Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) girlfriend Agent Carter (portrayed by Hayley Atwell) as she builds her career as a secret agent while the hero is frozen in ice."

Atwell recently shot a cameo for the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA sequel THE WINTER SOLDIER, which is set for an April 4, 2014 theatrical release.

Atwell's first feature film role was in Woody Allen's 2007 film Cassandra's Dream, in which she took the part of a stage actress opposite Ewan McGregor and Colin Farrell. In 2008, she appeared in the film The Duchess as Bess Foster and the film Brideshead Revisited as Lady Julia Flyte, earning praise and nominations from the British Independent Film Awards and the London Film Critics' Circle Awards.

In January 2009, Atwell made her West End debut in Lindsay Posner's revival of A View from the Bridge at the Duke of York's Theatre which earned her a Laurence Olivier Award nomination.

Atwell appeared as "415" in AMC Television's November 2009 miniseries, The Prisoner, a remake of the 1967-68 series by the same name. She also appeared in The Pillars of the Earth.
