Martin Sheen Joins Brandt's 'The Double'; Filming Starts Monday

The Hollywoord Reporter reports that Martin Sheen has recently been cast in the Hyde Park/Imagenation-produced 'The Double,' a spy thriller written and directed by Michael Brandt and starring Richard Gere and Topher Grace. Sheen is reported to play the CIA director. Filming will begin Monday in Detroit. Additional cast members include Stephen Moyer, Stana Katic, and Odette Yustman. The film was co-written by Derek Haas.

Hyde Park's Ashok Amritraj and Patrick Aiello of Hyde Park with produce the film with Andrew Deane of Haas and Industry Entertainment. Mohamed Khalaf Al-Mazrouei and Edward Borgerding, chairman and CEO of Imagenation, respectively, will executive produce.

Martin Sheen is perhaps best known for his performance as President Josiah Bartlett in the acclaimed NBC-TV series "The West Wing," a role for which he won six Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor, and for the role of Captain Willard in the legendary film "Apocalypse Now." He has worked for some of the most prominent directors including Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Oliver Stone, Richard Attenborough, Terrence Malick and Mike Nichols. His films include "Catch-22," "That Certain Summer," "Badlands," "The Execution of Private Slovik," "Gandhi," "Wall Street," "JFK," "The American President," "The Departed," "Bobby" and "Catch Me If You Can," among many others.

Sheen was last seen on stage in THE SUBJECT WAS ROSES at the Taper earlier this year, a play that brought him a Tony Award nomination in 1964.
