According to EWonline, a Facebook campaign has been launched to bring The Muppets, stars of the upcoming film, THE MUPPETS, to the podium to host the Academy Awards in February.

Currently, over 19,000 Facebook users have joined the Facebook page 'The Muppets Should Host the 2012 Oscars' and the numbers are still growing.  The campaign states, "The Academy Awards are a sacred American institution. Who better to host the 2012 Oscars than another American institution: The Muppets?".  While the site was launched last February, it has skyrocketed since yesterday's announcement by Eddie Murphy that he will no longer serve as host of the awards show.  It was announced yesterday that  Brian Grazer would takeover as the new producer for the event, but he has not commented on who he would like to see as the host.

THE MUPPETS stars Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Rashida Jones and Zach Galifianakis. Segel will serve as host of NBC's SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE this November to promote the film.

THE MUPPETS opens nationwide on November 23rd.
