Liam Neeson & Lesley Manville to Star in Upcoming Romance NORMAL PEOPLE

According to Deadline, Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville are set to star in upcoming love story Normal People due to begin production this summer in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Normal People tells the story of a long-married couple, Joan and Tom, who have an accumulated ease and deep tenderness to their relationship but when Joan is unexpectedly diagnosed with breast cancer, the course of her treatment shines a light on their bond and exposes challenges arising from an uncertain future. Additional casting is underway on the film, which will likely be viewed by buyers as a potential grey-pound breakout.

The drama will be directed by filmmaking duo Lisa Barros D'Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Good Vibrations) and is based on a script by Irish playwright Owen McCafferty. Producers are Brian J. Falconer for Out of Orbit, David Holmes for Canderblinks Films and The Wife and Churchill producer Piers Tempest for Tempo Productions. Finance comes from Head Gear Films, Northern Ireland Screen, BFI and Christopher Reynold's Newcastle-based investment vehicle CR67 Limited. Natascha Wharton for the BFI, Phil Hunt and Compton Ross for Head Gear Films and Stephen Kelliher for Bankside Films will serve as executive producers. Bankside began early discussions on the project at the EFM but are launching in earnest now.

Neeson rose to prominence when he starred in the title role in Steven Spielberg's Academy Award-winning film, Schindler's List. He has since starred in other successful films, including the title role in the historical biopic Michael Collins , the 1998 film adaptation of Victor Hugo's Les Misérables, the epic space operaStar Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace, the biographical drama Kinsey, the superhero film Batman Begins, the action thriller series Taken, the thriller-survival film The Grey, and the historical drama Silence. He also provided the voices of Aslan in The Chronicles of Narnia trilogy and the titular monster in A Monster Calls. Neeson has been nominated for a number of awards, including an Academy Award for Best Actor, a BAFTA Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and three GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama. EMPIRE magazine ranked Neeson among both the "100 Sexiest Stars in Film History" and "The Top 100 Movie Stars of All Time".

Lesley Manville most recently starred in the Oscar-Nominated flick Phantom Thread. The Actress has appeared in several films including Maleficent, Mr. Turner, Hampstead, Dance with a Stranger, and High Hopes. Manville's extensive stage career includes roles in As You Like It and Les Liaisons Dangereuses with the Royal Shakespeare Company, His Dark Materials (National Theatre 2005), The Alchemist (National Theatre 2006), All About My Mother and Six Degrees of Separation. In 2012, she was nominated for an Olivier Award for her role in Leigh's play Grief, before winning the 2014 Olivier Award for Best Actressfor her role in the revival of Ghosts.
