Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae to Star in Romantic Comedy, LOVEBIRDS

Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae are set to star in the Paramount romantic comedy "The Lovebirds," according to Variety.

The story follows a couple on the verge of a break-up who become involved in a murder mystery.

"The Lovebirds" will be produced by Tom Lassally, Olly Obst, Todd Shulman, Jordana Mollick, and Gero. Media Rights Capital is co-producing and co-financing the film. Nanjiani, Rae and Showalter are executive producers.

Nanjiani will be reunited with Michael Showalter, the director of his film "The Big Sick," on this project. Showalter is on board to direct "The Lovebirds" from a script by Aaron Abrams, Brendan Gall, and Martin Gero.

The film will go into production at the end of this month.

Nanjiani is best known for starring as programmer Dinesh Chugtai in the five seasons of HBO's sitcom "Silicon Valley." He also starred in and co-wrote "The Big Sick" with his wife Emily V. Gordon. The autobiographical comedy-drama received an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rae is the co-creator, writer, executive producer, and star of HBO's series "Insecure." She also appeared in the drama "The Hate U Give."
