According to The Hollywood Reporter, Season 11 AMERICAN IDOL champion Phillip Phillips will not be sidelined by upcoming kidney surgery and will be able to perform at the July 6th American Idol kick-off tour date in Detroit.

The 21-year-old singer has been through eight surgeries during the reality competition's 11th season in order to treat a buildup of kidney stones. The congenital condition has prevented Phillip's right kidney from functioning properly, causing doctors to use a temporary stint during the season until a more permanent operation could be performed.

The surgery is set for the first week of June, only one month before the contestants set off for their 45-date tour throughout the U.S. Idol producers 19 Entertainment assured reporters that Phillips will be able to participate in all the summer concerts, despite the fact that typical recovery time for Phillips' operation is six weeks.

The IDOL tour is scheduled to go through July and August, ending on September 11 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
