Imax Corporation (NYSE: IMAX; TSX: IMX) today announced that GONE with the Bullets, esteemed Chinese director Jiang Wen's follow-up to 2010 local blockbuster Let the Bullets Fly, scored $4.2 million on 185 Imax screens, making it one of the largest-ever opening weekends for a Chinese Imax DMR (Digital Re-mastered) film.

GONE with the Bullets, from Beijing Buyilehu Film & Culture Co. Ltd., began its record Imax debut in China with an opening-day gross of $1.2 million, the highest Imax opening for a locally produced film ever in that country. The film also earned nearly $250,000 in midnight grosses. The record opening launch in Imax is especially notable considering it falls outside the highly lucrative Chinese New Year period.

Moreover, in anticipation of the Chinese release of GONE with the Bullets, Imax opened more than 20 new screens on the mainland.

"We congratulate our partners at Buyilehu Film & Culture and director Jiang Wen for making such a creative and successful follow-up to the blockbuster, Let the Bullets Fly," said Greg Foster, Senior Executive Vice President, Imax Corp. and CEO of Imax Entertainment. "We're excited to have been part of this record-setting launch and thrilled that Chinese movie-goers chose to see GONE with the Bullets in the most immersive way possible in Imax theatres."

The Imax 3D release of GONE with the Bullets will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The Imax Experience with proprietary Imax DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images, coupled with IMAX'scustomized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio, create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.
