Janelle Monae Joins LADY AND THE TRAMP

Janelle Monae has been cast in the live-action "Lady and the Tramp from from Disney, according to Variety.

Monae will voice Peg, one of the dogs Lady meets when she is taken to the pound. It was previously announced that Tessa Thompson will play Lady and Justin Theroux will voice Tramp. Thomas Mann will play Lady's human owner, Jim Dear, and Kiersey Clemons is Mann's wife, Darling.

"Lady and the Tramp" tells the story of an American Cocker Spaniel named Lady who is set astray when her upper-middle-class family has a baby. Lady ends up meeting a mongrel known as the Tramp on the streets. They embark on a romantic journey and eventually fall in love.

The film is being helmed by Charlie Bean and will debut on Disney's upcoming digital streaming service that launches next year. The script for the film was written by Andrew Bujalskiand Jessica Virtue and Chaz Salembier are overseeing the film for Disney.

Monae recently joined the cast of "UglyDolls" and the Harriet Tubman biopic. She will be seen in the upcoming film "Welcome to Marwen."
