James Franco has followed in the footsteps of Zach Braff and Veronica Mars and started an Indiegogo campaign to raise the $500,000 needed to adapt his book of short stories, called "Palo Alto", into a film trilogy. Watch his promo video!

Franco writes of the project: "The book is a compilation of short fictional stories inspired by high school experiences and growing up in Palo Alto, California. For this project, I have invited the talented up and coming filmmakers Nina Ljeti, Vladimir Bourdeau, Bruce Thierry Cheung, and Gabriel Demeestere to adapt and direct some of my short stories into three different feature films: Memoria, Killing Animals, and Yosemite. "

All proceeds from the films will go to Art of Elysium, a non-profit organization that encourages working actors, artists and musicians to voluntarily dedicate their time and talent to children who are battling serious medical conditions.

Rewards for backers include set visits, VIP premiere screenings, personalized videos and more.

Franco will next be seen on the big screen in This Is the End, with upcoming projects including Richard Peter Johnson, Child of God, Black Dog, Red Dog, Homefront, Good People, Third Person, The Garden of Last Days, Queen of the Desert and Everything Will Be Fine. He is well known for his portrayal of Peter Parker's best friend in the Spider-Man franchise and has also appeared in As I Lay Dying, Oz the Great and Powerful, Lovelace, Spring Breakers, The Iceman, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Green Hornet, 127 Hours, Howl, Pineapple Express, and the popular TV series Freaks and Geeks, among many other credits.
