Vareity reports that David Tennant and Olivia Colman will return for a third season of ITV's award-winning drama series BROADCHURCH. The show is produced by Kudos and Imaginary Friends Productions, and written and created by Chris Chibnall.

David Tennant ("Doctor Who") and Olivia Colman (Locke) portray Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller respectively. As of now, no details have been released as to the return of other cast members.

ITV's Director of Drama Steve November and Controller of Drama Victoria Fea have commissioned the new series which will be once again written by Chris Chibnall. "Chris Chibnall knows exactly how to keep viewers guessing and I'm delighted that he is going to take the story onto the next stage," said November.

Chibnall added, "We've been overwhelmed that nine million people every week have continued to join us on the twists and turns of 'Broadchurch.' This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I'm thrilled to be writing these characters once again."

A 10-part US remake of the series titled "Gracepoint" aired on FOX last year with Tennant reprising his role opposite Anna Gunn ("Breaking Bad"). Following poor ratings, the network did not renew the show for a second season.
