IDOL's Phillip Phillips 'Home' Hits No. 1 After Olympics Feature

EWonline reports that AMERICAN IDOL champ Phillip Phillips' first single, 'Home' has hit No. 1 on iTunes after it was featured on NBC's Olympics coverage of the U.S. women's gymnastics team. 

The single was played Sunday night during the network's coverage while introducing the women's gymnastic portion of the broadcast. The song was replayed three times througout the night during a series of pre-taped segments. The program drew over 40 million viewers.

After learning the news of his new number one single, Phillips tweeted, “Just saw where “Home”is on the iTunes chart! Thank you everyone who has bought it & supporting me.”

Prior to Sunday, the song was ranked in the 80's of iTunes’ chart rankings. The song sold 278,000 copies when it was first released to the public. Currently, it has been certified gold, selling over half a million copies.  

The IDOL winner recently underwent intensive kidney surgery, but has recovered and is currently on the American Idols Live! tour. He is recording his debut album due out this fall.
