HURT LOCKER Producer Backing Blackwater Biopic

By: Nov. 12, 2014

Deadline reports that the producer behind Oscar-winning film THE HURT LOCKER is developing a biopic about Blackwater founder Erik Prince. Voltage Pictures' Nicolas Chartier, Craig Flores and writer Adam Ciralsky are producing.

"Having spent considerable time with Erik," Chartier said, "I can easily say he is the most fascinating man I've ever met and there is a great movie in his life. Lawrence Of Arabia meets Jason Bourne meets Tony Stark. I can't wait to do justice to his story, so little of which is publicly known."

The film will be based on Prince's autobiography CIVILIAN WARRIORS and a recent Vanity Fair article, "Tycoon, Contractor, Solider, Spy," by Ciralsky.

The project will "chronicle Prince's life story and the rise and fall of his intensely secret and highly controversial company. Prince is a former Navy SEAL and heir to an auto parts fortune who put those resources to use building a facility in North Carolina swampland to harvest the world's finest Special Forces-trained bodyguards. This became a thriving business after the bombing of the USS Cole, 9/11 and other terrorist attacks, and Prince oversaw billion-dollar private security contracts before the slaughter of civilians in Iraq's Nissour Square hurt the company and led to Prince being outed as a CIA asset that placed him on the al-Qaeda hit list. He sold his company in 2010 and retreated from public view."

To bring Prince's story to light, the movie's writers have been granted access to in-depth research and Blackwater insiders.
