As previously reported, Idina Menzel will join the cast of GLEE for a guest appearance when the hit series returns from hiatus in April.

Menzel will not play the role of Lea Michele's mother as it was initially believed, at least not for now. Series creator Ryan Murphy isn't ruling out the possibility of a twist of sorts as he earlier told Michael Ausiello of EW.com's 'The Ausiello Files'. For the time being, Menzel's character will be introduced as the female coach of Vocal Adrenaline, New Directions' rival GLEE Club.

Menzel's first episode has wrapped filmed, says series co-creator Brad Falchuk. Falchuk reveals details of the Tony Award winner's upcoming appearance which is bound to drive GLEE fans into high-speculation mode until the new season returns. Reportedly, Menzel's character will get very intimate with Matthew Morrison's 'Mr. Schuester'. "She and Matt had an immediate chemistry. ... Her first scene -- literally it was 'Welcome aboard,' and they had a big makeout scene. So it was interesting for her. It was like, welcome to the show," Falchuck says in a report on Zap2it.com

Menzel is scheduled to appear on the first episode of the new installment of GLEE airing Tuesday, April 13 at 9pm, and then will return again for the season finale for the regional showdown with New Directions.

Idina Menzel confirmed her involvement with GLEE several weeks ago on her official website, stating:"Get ready to see Idina on a TV near you this spring! Idina is officially confirmed to appear on the hit FOX television series GLEE! Glee returns to FOX with new episodes in April, however we don't have her guest appearance air dates at this time. Look for more details coming soon."

Recent winner of the Golden Globe and People's Choice Award for Best New Comedy, GLEE, the genre-defying new musical comedy series, follows an optimistic teacher who - against all odds and a malicious cheerleading coach - attempts to save McKinley High's Glee Club from obscurity while helping a group of aspiring underdogs realize their true star potential. Starring Dianna Agron, Chris Colfer, Jessalyn Gilsig, Jane Lynch, Jayma Mays,Kevin McHale, Lea Michele, Cory Monteith, Matthew Morrison,Amber Riley, Mark Salling and Jenna Ushkowitz, GLEE is produced by Ryan Murphy Television in association with 20th Century FoxTelevision. Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan are co-creators of the series. Murphy, Falchuk and Dante di Loreto serve as executive producers, while Ian Brennan serves as co-executive producer.
