FEARnyc Horror Festival To Expand To Nationwide Month-Long Event In 2019

FEARnyc, New York City's biggest horror film festival, today announced that it will expand to a nationwide, month-long event in October 2019 featuring hundreds of horror film screenings and horror-themed events in all 50 states each day of the month of October.

"Fear has come to your little town," said John Capo, FEARnyc Founder and Festival Director. "The addled brains behind FEARnyc have gained national attention for scaring the pants off New Yorkers, and now we're taking the event on the road. In addition to our usual slate of U.S. and world premiere film screenings and filmmaker Q&As, FEARnyc 2019 is planned to feature live theatrical events, art installations, haunted events in cemeteries and graveyards, horror-themed panel discussions, virtual reality presentations, concerts, photography exhibits, and other unique and unexpected events FEARnyc has built its reputation on. We've already held a seance with a packed audience in total DARKNESS before a screening of The Exorcist. We've screened Night of the Living Dead with a live orchestral original score. We've had a witch party with a bunch of drag queens during Hocus Pocus. Who knows what we'll bring to your city."

FEARnyc is currently seeking film submissions as well as submissions of programming ideas and events from individuals and organizations in all 50 states. Submission details can be found below.

Established in 2016, FEARnyc showcases the best new horror films from all over the United States and from all corners of the globe in various horror subgenres, from slashers to sci-fi, the paranormal, mysteries, thrillers, suspense, and more. Unique special events are a hallmark of FEARnyc and have included a screening of THE EXORCIST preceded by a seance with the audience led by a master psychic, screenings of Night of the Living Dead and Faust with live orchestral scores, and more.

Honorees

Past FEARnyc honorees have included the late Wes Craven and George A. Romero, with tribute events featuring appearances by family members and former cast members from the directors' films.

Many films screened at FEARnyc have garnered distribution or gone on to wider release, including Dead Awake (the newest film from Final Destination creator Jeffrey Reddick), Unearthed and Untold: The Path to Pet Sematary, Inoperable starring Danielle Harris, Sickhouse (the world's first feature film made entirely on Snapchat), The Dark Tapes, Don't F*** in the Woods, The Butcher Brothers' A Beginner's Guide to Snuff, Charismata, Flesh Blanket, Howard Lovecraft and the Undersea Kingdom, the remake of Blood Feast, and others.
