"Recalling the work of Terrence Malick, Werner Herzog and the late Chris Marker" (The Hollywood Reporter), Peter Mettler's enthralling new film The End of Time combines elements of documentary, essay, and experimental cinema to create a tour de force that challenges our conception of time - and perhaps the very fabric of our existence.

With stunning cinematography and a knack for capturing astonishing moments,The End of Time travels the planet to explore the links between renewal and destruction, between primordial mysticism and the furthest reaches of modern science, giving the viewer a transcendent cinematic experience.

From the CERN particle accelerator in Switzerland, where 2013 Nobel Prize Laureates François Englert and Peter Higgs seek to probe regions of time we cannot see, to lava flows in Hawaii which have overwhelmed all but one home on the south side of Big Island; from the disintegration of inner city Detroit, to a Hindu funeral rite near the Bodhi tree of Buddha's enlightenment, Mettler takes on the elusive subject of time, and once again turns his camera to filming the unfilmmable.

The End of Time is at once personal, rigorous and visionary. Mettler has crafted a film as compelling and magnificent as its subject as he dares to dream the movie of the future while also immersing us in the wonder of the everyday. With its breathtaking footage, diverse subject matter, and surprising associations, Mettler's newest film is one of his most accomplished reflections on humanity's place within an unpredictable world.

The third in a trilogy which began with Picture of Light (1996) and was followed by Gambling, Gods & LSD (2002), The End of Time re-affirms Mettler as a visionary deeply committed to a unique and long-standing cinematic endeavor. Call it Mettler-vision, or even Mettler-ama.

Mettler's films explore themes foreshadowed even in his earliest works - the wonder and intrigue of human perception, technology's ability to both liberate and enslave, the authenticity of experience through the illusion of cinema, the ephemeral essence that exists beyond a photographed subject, and the ease at which reality slips into abstraction.

Living and working between Canada and Switzerland, Peter Mettler melds intuitive-associative processes with drama, essay, experiment and documentation. Mettler is known for a diversity of work in image and sound mediums - foremost for his films but also as a photographer and groundbreaking live audio/visual mixing performer. He has collaborated with an extensive range of international artists and has been honored with awards and retrospectives worldwide.

"Peter Mettler is an incomparable talent in Canadian cinema. The innovation and audacity of his work, his dedication to the cinematic art form, and his ability to conjure up images that remain permanently etched in one's mind, secures his place as one of this country's most distinguished contemporary filmmakers." - Piers Handling, Director of the Toronto International Film Festival.
