According to Syfy Wire, actress Eva Green has joined the cast of Alice Winocour's upcoming film PROXIMA. Green's character is an astronaut preparing for a rigorous year in space; she must struggle through the intensive training process whilst battling emotional pain at separating from her young daughter.

Winocour, whose previous writing/directing credits include DISORDER and AUGUSTINE, says of the film:

"It is [set] just before the launch, which is the worst part of the astronaut's training. Because when they get in space they are ready for everything, but just before is really the hard part...The idea is also to have an astronaut that can be a superheroine and at the same time a mother...It's time that women should assume that you can be an astronaut and a mother too."

Prior to filming, Green will be trained by French astronaut Thomas Pesquet who recently completed a six month stay at the ISS. PROXIMA will also star German actor Lars Eidinger, known for his role on Sense8.

Eva Green is a French/English actress best known for her roles in PENNY DREADFUL, MISS PEREGRINE'S HOME FOR PECULIAR CHILDREN, and DARK SHADOWS.
