MARY SHELLEY, a film about an 18 year old author who penned one of the most iconic books of our time, Frankenstein, has just been picked up by IFC, as reported by Deadline. MARY SHELLEY stars Elle Fanning in the titular role and Maisie Williams (GAME OF THRONES).

The film follows Shelley (formerly known as Mary Wollstonecraft) who falls in love with poet Percy Shelley. Their love affair is scandalous in the literary world, but when tragedy strikes, when they lose their baby girl, Mary tries to transform her grief into words, by writing Frankenstein.

The film premiered at the Toronto Film Festival this year. It is directed by Haifaa Al-Monsour, the first director to fully shoot a film (WADJDA) in Saudi Arabia.

Emma Jensen wrote the script, while Amy Baer, Ruth Coady and Alan Moloney serve as producers.

The film also stars Douglas Booth (LOVING VINCENT), Bel Powley (THE DIARY OF A TEENAGE GIRL), Tom Sturridge (FAR FROM THE MADDING CROWD) and Ben Hardy (X-MEN: APOCALYPSE).
