In an interview with NewsOne Now, Eddie Murphy revealed he will return to SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE for the first time in more than 30 years for the series' 40th anniversary special on NBC.

Murphy said he hadn't come back sooner because of timing: "It just never worked out where the timing was right for me to do it...I think when you come from the stage and you come from a show like Saturday Night Live, I think you always have that feeling. It's nothing like connecting with a live audience. That feeling is the best there is."

Murphy appeared on SNL from 1980-84 before leaving TV for the big screen.

Among the actor's film credits are TRADING PLACES, BEVERLY HILLS COP, THE NUTTY PROFESSOR, DR. DOOLITTLE, NORBIT, MULAN, SHREK, DREAMGIRLS and more.

SNL's three-hour 40th anniversary special will air on February 15 from 8 to 11 p.m. on NBC.
