On the day the biggest teaser trailer of the week hits (Star Wars : The Force Awakens), a new science-fiction film takes to the dunes of the classic Star Wars Episode VI : Return of the Jedi. Actress and Producer Tracey Birdsall's new film Robot Fighter is currently lensing on many of the same locations as Jedi - notably the Salton Sea, Yuma, Arizona. Those 'dunes' feature prominently in the movie.

The film isn't without its Star Wars ties, thematically either. Director Neil Johnson's space chronicle fixes on the overthrow of humanity by Artificial Intelligence and the determined rebel who goes up against the droid empire.

Starring alongside Birdsall is Star Trek III : The Search for Spock's Stephen Manley.

The movie also features Daz Crawford (Blade II), Livvy Stubenrauch (Frozen), Erin Bethea (Fireproof), Tim McGrath, Ashley Park, and Aaron Jacques.

Robot Fighter is expected to be the first in a series, and will be released in 2016.
