Prepare to see some of nature's tiniest creatures like never before in the U.S. premiere of the Discovery Channel/BBC co-production MINI MONSTERS, airing tonight, May 31st at 9pm. Narrated by GAME OF THRONES' Peter Dinklage, the special follows a cast of animal characters from chipmunks to beetles to marmoset monkeys, revealing life on a different scale. Two years in the making, MINI MONSTERS immerses viewers into the worlds of these tiny animal superheroes, inviting them to witness the incredible, action-packed lives of these miniature creatures from a whole new, unexplored perspective.

Throughout the two hour special, MINI MONSTERS introduces viewers to a unique cast of tiny creatures and their everyday struggles to survive. There are death-defying feats, intimate family moments, and catastrophes. Using location filming, visual effects, and new cameras developed specially for the series, the show is based in some of the planet's most iconic landscapes: savannah & desert, jungles & forests, and the metropolises of Rio & Tokyo. The creatures that inhabit these places are all at the mercy of elements beyond their control. A sudden rainstorm releases raging torrents that can wash away an animal's home in seconds; a migrating herd of wildebeest literally shakes up another little creature's world, leaving it spinning in a tunnel of dust. When you are just a few inches tall, sand stings like gravel and a sudden gust of wind feels like a tornado. But little creatures are just as tenacious and resourceful as the bigger beasts of the natural world, and each of them has a story to tell.

Andrew Jackson, EVP of Production and Development for Discovery Channel, says "We've shared with viewers the incredible lives of the planet's larger animals, now it's the turn of the unfamiliar and lesser known lives of smaller creatures. These 'mini monsters' live in a world where a pinecone can be a meteoroid and a drop of water a flood. These little heroes may be tiny, but they lead fascinating lives that we so rarely get a close view of."

MINI MONSTERS airs on Saturday, May 31st at 9pm on Discovery. TINY GIANTS, a 40-minute big screen event, will also launch on May 24th at The Field Museum in Chicago. Audiences will be transported through the giant screen into another world and will experience the titanic battles these creatures face to survive. The original UK version of MINI MONSTERS, called HIDDEN KINGDOMS and featuring narration by Stephen Fry, will be available on Blu-ray and DVD July 8, 2014.

MINI MONSTERS is a Discovery Channel/BBC co-production. For BBC, Mike Gunton is executive producer and Mark Brownlow is series producer. For Discovery Channel, Jonathan Halperin is producer/writer with Robert Zakin as executive producer and John Cavanagh as producer.
