Director Lee Daniels to Receive Artistic Excellence Award at 2014 Arts & Business Council Celebration

The Arts & Business Council of Greater Philadelphia is proud to honor renowned director and producer, Lee Daniels, at the 29th Annual Arts & Business Council Award Celebration.
On May 13, 2014, Daniels will receive the distinguished Anne d'Harnoncourt Award for Artistic Excellence for his achievements in film and the arts. Daniels is an Academy Award nominated director, writer, and producer. Most recently he released the critically acclaimed Lee Daniels' The Butler, which held the number one box office spot for three consecutive weeks, and has to date grossed over $113 million worldwide. Daniels is perhaps best known for his film Precious: Based on the Novel By Sapphire, which was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Director. Other credits include The Paperboy, Shadowboxer, and Monster's Ball. Lee Daniels, who was born and raised in Philadelphia, had this to say about the impact of the region on his career: "The rich culture of Philadelphia and its vibrant arts scene helped cultivate my interest in filmmaking from a young age. I'm so honored to be recognized in the city that influenced my craft and the first place I called home."
