In a new interview with The New York Daily News to promote HBO's release of THE SOPRANOS as a remastered Blu-ray box-set, series creator David Chase revealed that he is open to the idea of a prequel to the popular crime drama.
"Even if I did it, it wouldn't be The Sopranos that was on the air - obviously at least one person is gone that we would need," said Chase. "There are a couple of eras that would be interesting for me to talk about, about Newark, N.J. One would be (the) late '60s, early '70s, about all the racial animosity, or the beginning, the really true beginning of the flood of drugs." As previously reported, Chase had said he would be interested in a project which followed Tony Soprano's parents and UNCLE Junior in their earlier days. As of yet, no official plans of that nature are underway at HBO. The crime drama revolved around the fictional New Jersey-based Italian-American mobster Tony Soprano, portrayed by late actor James Gandolfini. The show followed the difficulties he faced as he tried to balance his home life and his criminal organization. The Sopranos signed off the airwaves in 2007 with a dramatic finale that left many fans confused and frustrated over exactly what happened.
