TVGuide reports that Christine Lahti has signed on to the upcoming CBS comedy pilot BEVRLY HILLS COP. The project is a sequel to the 1980's Eddie Murphy comedy film. The actress joins previously announced castmembers Kevin Pollack and David Denman.

The pilot centers on Axel Foley's police officer son, Aaron (played by Brandon T. Jackson) who maintains the safety of the rich and famous of Beverly Hills. Lahti is set to portray 'Helen', "the captain of the Beverly Hills Police Department who is respected by her detectives, though she worries Aaron's penchant for being a renegade will one day embarrass her."

Shawn Ryan will write and executive-produce the project along with Eddie Murphy.

Lahti's TV credits include Chicago Hope, SVU and Jack & Bobby, as well as the current drama Hawaii Five-O. Ryan may have given viewers a head's up about the demise of Lahti's character on that CBS series last week when he tweeted, "One downside of casting a pilot: learning an actress who's supposed to be on a show you watch is getting killed off because now she's avail."
