According to The Hollywood Reporter, CNN's Candy Crowley will serve as moderator for the October 16 presidential debate to be held at New York's Hofstra University. The newswoman will be the first woman in 20 years to take on the role.

Carole Simpson was the last female to moderate a presidential debate in 1992. Prior to that, The View's Barbara Walters took on hosting duties in 1976 and 1984.

Crowley currently serves as CNN's Chief Political Correspondent, specializing in U.S. presidential, gubernatorial, and Senate elections. She is based in CNN's Washington bureau and is the anchor of their Sunday morning talk show, State of the Union with Candy Crowley. She has covered elections for over two decades.
