CBS's LATE SHOW Wins the Week by Largest Margin of Victory Since Premiere

THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT placed first again in the weekly late night ratings, winning by its largest margin since the show's premiere in September 2015, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending May 5. THE LATE SHOW averaged 3.06m viewers, up +12% from last week (2.74m) and +19% from the same week last year (2.57m). THE LATE SHOW topped "The Tonight Show" by +410,000 viewers (3.06m vs. 2.65m, +15%), the largest differential since the week of Sept. 8, 2015. This is the first time CBS beat "The Tonight Show" in viewers for 14 consecutive weeks since the week ending Oct. 16, 2009 to the week ending Jan. 15, 2010.

With a week of first-run episodes, THE LATE SHOW was in its closest ever competitive position to "The Tonight Show" in adults 18-49 (-99,000) and closest competitive position in adults 18-34 (-26,000) since the week ending Oct. 9, 2015. During the same week last year, THE LATE SHOW trailed "The Tonight Show" by -385,000 in adults 18-49 and by -106,000 in adults 18-34.

Featuring bandleader Jon Batiste with his band Stay Human, the show is broadcast from the historic and newly renovated Ed Sullivan Theater. Stephen Colbert took over as host, executive producer and writer of THE LATE SHOW on Sept. 8, 2015.
