Bryan Batt Discusses 'Mad Men' Character with the Huffington Post

Broadway star Bryan Batt has spent the last several years as Salvatore Romano on the hit television show "Mad Men," which surrounds an ad agency, Sterling Cooper, in the 1960s. Batt's character was recently fired from the agency and he recently spoke with the Huffington Post about his character and the show in general.

For those unfamiliar with "Mad Men", Batt played one of the few gay characters on the show. In an episode late in season three, Romano turns down the advances of a high profile customer, which leads to his firing. Of The Situation, Batt said, "Sal could have prevented that by taking one for the team but I don't think Sal was ready for that. But...with what happened at Sterling Cooper he had to be fired."

Batt did say, however, that he hopes this is not Romano's last appearance at Sterling Cooper. "I'm just praying that the last time we saw him at the phone booth, that he doesn't end up on a ramble for the rest of his life. But that was one of the options of the time, unfortunately." Batt's contract was not renewed for the fourth season of "Mad Men."

Mr. Batt, a civic activist, champions many causes including Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS, Habitat For Humanity, Second Harvest Food Bank, the Human Rights Campaign (Equality Award), the SPCA, The Preservation Resource Center, The Point Foundation, N.O. AIDS Task Force (board member, Humanitas Award), and Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre (board member and interim Artistic Director).

Bryan lives tri-coastally, splitting his time between New Orleans, New York, and Los Angeles.
