Women of Letters is everyone's favorite literary salon! Every month, New York's best and brightest women come together on stage to celebrate the lost art of letter writing. For November, expect laughter, tears and camaraderie as host Sofija Stefanovic welcomes guests reading "a letter to my could have been." The lineup is Lucy Alibar (Playwright/Screenwriter, Beasts of the Southern Wild), Mallory Ortberg (Writer/Editor/Co-founder, The Toast), Nyemiah Supreme (Rapper & Star, Sisterhood of Hip Hop), Melissa Febos (Writer/former Dominatrix, Whip Smart) and Franchesca Ramsey (Comedian/Actress & Host, MTV's Decoded).

Donnie Fritts's Oh My Goodness, his most polished record to date, is an elevated departure from his funky Muscle Shoals sound but with his powerhouse songwriting. "People don't make records with 71 year-old guys," he says, his humility always sitting shotgun by his talent. Co-founder of Single Lock Records, John Paul White, formerly of the Grammy Award-winning duo The Civil Wars, befriended Fritts in 2013 when he asked him to play at the Muscle Shoals documentary premiere in Florence, AL, where White owns Sun Drop Studios. Later, White insisted they cut an album together. What began as a minimalist work - Fritts's raspy voice and his 1970's-era Wurlitzer - morphed into something richer and deeper. Oh My Goodness is a combination of fresh sound and honed talent backed by Nashville and Muscle Shoals legends and rising brilliants.

The Big Picture, her latest, builds upon her previous works, but offers even more of her writing, and more still of her unique sound. Fresh from touring the West Coast with Neil Young, singing activists Reverend Billy & The Stop Shopping Choir return with their new show The Earth Wants YOU! The choir will mark their residency with the release of a new album, Resist Extinction, premiering ten new songs on November 1. Directed by Savitri D, with musical direction by Nehemiah Luckett, the choir represents a diverse array of economic, ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds - scientists, teachers, therapists, artists, builders, dog walkers, actors, writers and executives. The core of their work is its activism, which is the source material for their output. The group has been arrested many times, especially with Occupy Wall Street and Black Lives Matter, and are now working to ban the Monsanto herbicide "Roundup," which is sprayed in NYC parks and is carcinogenic.

Born in Houston, Texas, Nashville-based, Georgia-bred singer-songwriter, Lera Lynn's music may be hard to categorize, but that is likely why she appeals to so many. While the music business likes to wrap everything up in neat little packages, that isn't always possible. Lera's music has frequently been filed under "Americana", "Folk" and "Country." But those categorizations tell only part of the story. "I just want to stop thinking about music as a marketing campaign," Lera says. With the sounds of Afro-Amerindian Mexico, this band offers a new interpretation that blends the origins of Mexican music with contemporary elements and draws from other cultures in the New York scene that share the same roots. They are ON FIRE right now, and this concert, specially prepared for their first time at Joe's Pub, will present some of the new material to be released on their upcoming album, due out early 2016.? Growing up in the Boston folk scene, Sean McConnell watched his parents play the songs of Joni Mitchell, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, David Wilcox, Harry Chapin, CSNY, James Taylor and more. McConnell soaked it all in, locking it away inside. Now, an artist in his own right, he travels the U.S. performing what he describes as "lyric-driven roots rock with soul." His live show is truly a dynamic experience - one moment reckless rock, and the next an intimate acoustic pin drop moment. Often backed by his four piece band, you can still find him solo on a stool with a guitar getting back to the basics. "It's all about the song. That never changes. It always starts with an acoustic guitar and a notepad. The lyrics are the point. The story is central," says McConnell.
If you've seen David Mayfield perform with The Avett Brothers, Jessica Lea Mayfield, or at Bonnaroo, you've caught the charisma, the heart and the comedy. Mayfield grew up playing bass and touring with his family's bluegrass band. As a teenager he established himself as a hot picker, collecting national awards for his dexterity on guitar and mandolin. His skills and personality brought him to bluegrass outfit Cadillac Sky, playing sold out shows with Mumford and Sons. Since then, he has toured almost non-stop. Conscious of being both a musician and an entertainer - something his father instilled in him at an early age - he makes an impression live. But it's the strength of his songwriting and musicianship, combined with that charm and personality that keep audiences consistently lining up to join the parade.

Stephanie McKay is a singer, songwriter, musician, and collaborator, hailing from the Bronx. Her debut solo album McKay (2003, Go! Beat/Polydor/Universal) produced by Portishead's Geoff Barrow and Tim Saul, was released in Europe and garnered major critical acclaim. In the UK, The Independent called the album "...the best soul debut since Macy Gray" and Black Beat referred to McKay as "...the savior we need to drag rhythm back to its roots." Two singles, "Tell Him" and "Take Me Over" and two videos were released from the album and received heavy rotation on the radio and MTV Europe.
