Brian Posehn Reveals How Bert's Wedding Tears Came Together on STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE
Crew members detail building a 50-plus costume wardrobe and an entire utopian village for one episode.
Brian Posehn, reprising his Big Bang Theory role of Bert for STUART FAILS TO SAVE THE UNIVERSE, sat down with hosts Felicia Day and Wil Wheaton on Episode 5 of the show's official HBO Max podcast to talk through the making of "Spoiler: Bert Gets Married." Posehn discussed Bert's emotional arc in the episode's paradise universe romance and told the hosts that the series has become his favorite job.
Posehn traced Bert's evolution from a background figure to a central character, recalling how the part began as an unnamed cafeteria character on The Big Bang Theory before growing into a multiverse leading role on the spinoff. He also spoke about writing Deadpool and how his own nerdiness shaped the way he approached playing Bert, alongside stories about Dungeons & Dragons, Nerd Poker, and his favorite character classes.
Production designer Valdar Wilt and costume designer Valerie Klarich joined the conversation later in the episode to detail the physical scale of the wedding episode, including an enormous village built for the paradise universe and a wardrobe of more than 50 costumes constructed from scratch. Wilt and Klarich also discussed their respective paths into production design and costuming and spoke about the episode's post-apocalyptic Rose Bowl marketplace sequence.
The episode is part of the same official podcast series that previously featured Mayim Bialik discussing her approach to reworking Amy for the show, as covered in prior BroadwayWorld reporting. New episodes of the podcast are released weekly alongside the series on HBO Max.
