Tom Sherak, President of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences has announced that prominent film producer Brian Grazer wil be replacing former show producer Brett Ratner for the upcoming awards ceremony, according to the New York Times. Grazer will join Don Mischer to co-produce the February 2012 show.

In his announcement, Sherak said, "Brian Grazer is a renowned filmmaker who over the past 25 years has produced a diverse and extraordinary body of work. He will certainly bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships to the Oscars."

Grazer, whose recent film credits include 'J Edgar' and 'Tower Heist', was quoted earlier in the day, saying, "It's very gratifying to be part of a show that honours excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career. Don is a legend, and I am excited to work with him."

Earlier this week, Brett Ratner had resigned his role as producer for the upcoming 84th Academy Awards show because of recently-made offensive remarks, including a gay slur during a Q & A press session where he was promoting his new film, 'Tower Heist'.  The director apologized for his comments after a video of his appearance was posted on NY Magazine.

Yesterday, comedian and 'Tower Heist' star Eddie Murphy, who was set to host this year's award's show, dropped out of his post after Ratner had handed in his resignation.

Brian Grazer has won a 'Best Picture' Academy Award in 2001 for the film 'A Beautiful Mind'. He was also nominated for Apollo 13 and Frost/Nixon.
