Robin Roberts will begin her medical leave from ABC's GOOD MORNING AMERICA tomorrow, August 31st. The long-time morning show host, who is a survivor of breast cancer, revealed in June that she was suffering from MDS myelodysplastic syndrome, a rare blood and bone-marrow disease. Last month she shared with viewers that she would be taking a medical leave of absense from the show sometime in August to receive a bone marrow transplant from her sister Sally.
The anchorwoman will most probably be gone from the morning program for months and no return date has been announced.
However, it was revealed this morning that hosting duties will be shared among some of Hollywood's biggest names, including Oprah Winfrey, Chris Rock, Rob Lowe, the cast of Modern Family, Diane Sawyer, Katie Couric, Barbara Walters and Kelly Ripa.
"This means so much [that] these friends are stepping up like this," said an emotional Roberts. "I love them for that!"
