Deadline reports that 'Orphans' star Ben Foster is in final discussion to take on the role of controversial athlete Lance Armstrong in an upcoming biopic from Stephen Fears. Production is set to get underway this fall.

With a script from John Hodge, the project will follow "Armstrong's career from his cancer ordeal to the scandal that brought him down."

Earlier this week, Sony Pictures Classics announced it will be releasing its own Armstrong documentary from Alex Gibney. The film, produced by Gibney, Frank Marshall and Matt Tolmach, tells "the unfolding story of Armstrong's life and career over the last four years."

Foster made his Broadway debut this spring in Orphans, replacing actor Shia LeBeouf prior to the show's official opening. He will next be seen in the Sundance Festival entries "Ain't Them Body Saints" and "Kill Your Darlings", and opposite Mark Wahlberg in Peter Berg's "Lone Survivor".
