It's another road trip as Doris (Lauren Weedman), Dom (Murray Bartlett) and Patrick (Jonathan Groff) head to Modesto for a funeral in tonight's ep, "Looking for a plot." Sit tight, we'll get you caught up.

We open on a diner after the halloween bash where Patrick publicly humiliated himself after over-indulging in tequila. Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez) tell him "Actually, I'm really looking forward to the drag queen re-enactment of your epic speech in the Castro."

He also appears to have thrown up on Eddie (Daniel Franzese). And the price of forgiveness in San Francisco appears to be some scones that Patrick has smuggled into the diner where they are brunching.

Doris is texting with Malik (Bashir Salahuddin) instead of paying attention to her Gays. After she takes a shot of her breasts under her shirt, Dom confiscates the phone so they can all turn their attention back to Patrick's current crisis this week: his drunken speech that has alienated him from just about everyone in town outside of those present at the table.

Doris' phone buzzes again. Dom reads it and tells her it's from her Aunt Sarah. Doris announces to the table, "My Dad's dead," glances at the text one more time to make sure it said what she thought it does and then vents "That's not my coffee, I never got my coffee." It's such a weird reaction, but for anyone who has ever received a text announcing death/illness, you know it's sort of a truthful reaction.

And then we are off on a road trip to Modesto. Doris and Dom are reminiscing; Doris' father still wanted Dom to marry his daughter even after Dom came out to him. Dom and Doris really are soul mates. Her current boyfriend Malik wanted to come and she told him no. She did let Patrick tag along for some strange reason (seeing as Patrick never met her father and is only using the trip to run away from the mess he made from the party).

At some road stop, Patrick asks her about her father. Her fondest memories are when he would take her driving around in the middle of the night, waiting for Doris' mother (a raging alcoholic) to pass out. Patrick realizes someone had a worse childhood than he did.

They make it to Modesto. Dom quips "nothing has changed, it just looks a little smaller." Rather than stay in her father's home (she's not quite ready to deal with everything,) she has booked them into rooms at the Clarion. "I used to think the pool looked so rock star," she tells them.

They get to the funeral home and Doris changes her mind about seeing the body. Dom tells her he always regretted not seeing his father's body. "Are you making me feel guilty in a funeral home," she asks as only Doris could. "Thank you, that's very classy of you." She and dom head back to view the body.

They reminisce some more while she tries to hold it together. He interrupted them once when they were making out to Wham!. Doris confides in Dom that she sometimes thought of George Michael when Dom was kissing her. Dom tells her he did, too. She fixates on the suit (which she hates) and the fact he has too much make up on (Dom agrees with her, telling her he does kind of look like a drag queen).

Back in the car, she stares out the window. Patrick offers a neck rub. Apparently, this is something Patrick exceeds at and Dom asks to get in on the neck rub action. Dom asks if he can show them something: his father's restaurant. It is now a thriving donut shop.

They make good on Doris' wish to swim in the pool. Patrick asks what they used to do. Dom says they used to have a lot of sex. He remembers it as being awesome, but Doris not so much. They order Kentucky Fried Chicken. Patrick jokes that if Dom's chicken is half as good as KFC, he will be successful.

Since Doris has no desire to see any of her family just yet, they head to what can only be Modesto's only gay bar. Patrick notices a guy sitting on the other end of the bar and dubs him "Mr. Lonely." Doris and Dom get some drinks. Patrick is left at the bar with the other guy. He contemplates making a move and then the other guy is joined by his boyfriend. There's only one lonely guy at the bar, Patrick (and it's you).

He buys three beers and heads to the dance floor. They are the only three people dancing and they dance as if no one is looking.

We cut to the funeral. Doris' aunt delivers a lovely eulogy highlighting just how much Doris meant to him and ends with a passage from "A Clear Midnight" by Walt Whitman. Patrick loses it and starts sobbing.

Later, at the reception, Aunt Sarah has to ask "Sweetie, are you ok? Everybody was so worried about you, they kept asking me who was the weird guy crying." And I cannot stop laughing.

They end their trip to Modesto with a visit to the cemetary. They are trying to find Dom's father's grave, but can't. Dom never got to come out to him and was hoping to at least do it graveside. Dom is sort of depressed he can't find his father's grave. Patrick's idea is to have him shout it from the passenger side of the car as they exit the cemetary.

And he does. And it is sort of a joyous moment...until their car his broadsided by a car as they pull out of the cemetary. Least you think we have moved into "Six Feet Under" territory here, everyone is fine. Patrick has the worst of it. He has to wear a sling (and that means he can't masterbate for a while). Doris reveals to Dom that her father left her some money and she wants Dom to use it for his restaurant. Malik shows up to drive them home and Doris hugs him and cries.

They drop Patrick off first. He walks up to the stoop of his apartment to find Kevin (Russell Tovey) waiting for him. Kevin has broken up with Jon. He is completely in love with Patrick and wants to get back together. They kiss and the credits roll. Team Kevin fans have to be happy.
