MAN, I'm happy this show is back as I sure do love the Gallaghers. And in this episode, everyone is teetering on the brink of doing "okay," which is a bad sign in this neighborhood and especially in this family.

Sheila is enjoying her new role as devoted wife as she tries to take care of her recovering husband, Frank. The only problem is, newly found daughter, Sammy, and her son, Chuckie are craving some attention from Frank that he's not willing to give. Even after Sheila goes as far as to change the locks to create some boundaries, Sammy and Chuckie literally break through once more to Sheila's oasis. To distract himself, Frank has begun a secret project in the basement that consists of creating the best beer in the world.

Lip has come home for the summer after completing his first year at college. Girlfriend/Sugar Momma, Amanda, is spending the summer in Miami. Back in the old neighborhood, I feel as though Lip is going to slowly realize that he has changed. When he texts Amanda at the end of the episode, does he really miss her or does he miss his new life? He is a familiy man at heart and knows this is where he has to be, but he has also tasted something new and promising. That can sometimes be dangerous in the Gallagher world.

Debbie is having a rough go as she deals with some mean girls at school. Carl has broken his ankle and steals a wheelchair to assist him in getting around. Both adolescents seem to be struggling into their teenage years as they try to figure out who they are.

Ian and Mickey seem to be a happy couple as Ian takes over nanny duties at the house as he has bonded with Svetlana, the baby and the other gals in the brothel. However, Ian's wandering eye is going to be trouble for this happy couple. Fiona and Lip confront Mickey about Ian's disease and encourage Mickey to get Ian to see the doctor. Mickey, nor Ian, can understand why everyone is pushing the doctor so much when he seems just fine. I am worried for these two. Their love is pretty solid, but manic depression and bipolar disease can destroy that quite easily.

Kev and Vee are adjusting to life as parents to the twins, Amy and Gemma, but Kev seems to be adjusting into fatherhood faster than Vee is slipping into her motherly tendencies. With their sex life gone, these two have an uphill battle ahead of them too.

And lastly, Fiona is doing well at her new job at the diner and is enjoying her flirty friendship with her new boss, Sean (Guest Star Dermot Mulroney). Her customers range from hot musicians who slip her their phone number for one night stands to a strange Asian woman who keeps leaving her $100 tips, named Angela. Although we, the audience, know that Angela was the one in the car with Steve/Jimmy/Jack in last season's shocking cliffhanger. Is Steve/Jimmy/Jack slipping Fiona cash through Angela? When will we see his face pop up again? Is he going to pick a name so I can stop using slashes?

I can't say I didn't swoon a little bit at the sweet Mickey and Ian moments, but it makes me all the more worried for them. I don't know if Mickey will be able to see it as a disease and just see it as a betrayal when he finds out what Ian's been up to. And he will find out. I am happy that Fiona and Lip are desperately trying to work with him and treat him like he's part of the family. It's very endearing how tight these Gallaghers are. And what is up with this guy Sean? He is clearly crushing on Fiona, but is her flirting just that or is there a mutual interest going on here? With you-know-who lurking in parked cars close by, we know that doesn't look good for Sean, but I'm all for more Dermot Mulroney.

I don't exactly know what Frank is up to. Is he just plain trying to drink himself to death? I wonder if he even knows what he's doing. And I hope they come up with actual plots for Carl and Debbie. Last year they both had actual storylines instead of just being the "other siblings." I think they are both interesting characters and they need to continue their growth. Is there more to Carl than just flat out trouble or does the kid have a fighting chance?

Lines I Love:

  • Kev - We are not going to formula. They will grow up with asthma and be short and have no friends.Vee - Kev, kids in this neighborhood are raised on Kool-aid and powdered milk. formula will be a step up.

  • Sheila - It's a Hummel! Not a hummer.

  • Debbie - I've already accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior, sorry. You should try a few houses down, they're Muslims.

It seems as if the neighborhood is about to get gentrified. I wonder how lightly the Gallaghers will take to that prospect. Or will a sweet pay day be just too much to turn down?
