On last night's SLEEPY HOLLOW on FOX, we open with Paul Revere's famous "Midnight Ride". Paul and his brigade gallop toward Lexington, unaware they are Being chased by none other than the Headless Horseman (pre-decapitation).

The deceased Sheriff's cabin has now been converted into Ichabod's crash pad and Abbie is setting him up with all that he might need in life, which in this case, is food. Lots and lots of food. Ichabod is appalled by America's tendency to buy in bulk, but Abbie reasons that they actually might need it in the case that they have to hide out from the Horseman.

Abbie and Crane split up-Abbie goes to the precinct to pick up Sheriff Corbin's old shotgun, while Ichabod heads off to make a plan with the Freemasons to figure out the Headless Horseman weaknesses. So, apparently they and the Freemasons are working together now? Except this doesn't include Abbie, because she's a woman and the Freemasons are an exclusive boys club who think girls have cooties.

On the way into the precinct, Abbie runs into Luke who really wants to be friends again even though they didn't work out as a couple. As The Exes chat, the camera zooms out to someone creepily watching their conversation from afar. Their stalker turns out to be former cop-turned Horseman henchman, Andy Brooks. Andy gets Luke alone and warns him to stay away from Abbie because he is the only one that can protect her from The End. Seriously, this guy needs to die. Or more accurately, he needs to stay dead.

En route to the Freemasons' house, Crane leaves a message on Abbie's voicemail about how it's totally not fair of his brothers to exclude her from their meeting just because she's a woman and not to worry, he intends to rectify the situation.

Crane arrives at the house only to find all the Freemasons with their heads cut off. Abbie joins him and together they catch a glimpse of the Horseman riding off into the night, probably pretty proud of himself for killing their former allies.

But it turns out the real reason the Horseman was even at the Freemasons' house in the first place was because he was looking for his skull. Abbie and Crane want to destroy the skull because, as Katrina warned earlier, if the Horseman gets ahold of it, it would raise the other Horsemen and speed that Apocalypse right along. After convincing the Captain that it is completely necessary for them to obtain and smash that skull up, the Captain goes to retrieve it even though it's technically evidence.

In the lab where he sent the skull, the Captain (finally!) comes face-to-face with the Headless Horsemen, who is there to get his head back. We love these moments when the so-called "Only Sane Man" finally becomes privy to the supernatural. The Captain escapes with the Horseman's head (and his own) and brings the skull back to Abbie and Ichabod.

The duo try everything to destroy the skull-acid, hammers, explosions-but nothing works. Time for a new plan. The two start out for Tarrytown because there's a car compactor there and if that can't destroy the skull then really what can? But before they can get in the car, Ichabod spots four lanterns on. One if by land, two if by sea, four if by....heads? They go to check out the lanterns and find the previously missing heads of the dead Freemasons. Abbie checks out the heads and sees that they tops of their skulls have been lined with silver. According to Crane, Paul Revere used this same tactic on the night of his "Midnight Ride" except instead of heads; he used them on lanterns to better the illumination. This was the same night that Crane just happened to a manuscript being given to Revere. This manuscript held all of the Freemasons' enemies' secrets and now the horseman is out to destroy it.

As the manuscript is a historical artifact, Abbie and Crane head to the museum to recover it. The manuscript has unfortunately been moved to London, but fear not, they have uploaded a copy online! Sure this is lucky for them but its also lucky for us viewers who get to see Crane hilariously attempt to use a computer with very little success.

Abbie runs into Andy, who promises he is just trying to protect her and give her some advice about the Horseman. She's like, "Aren't you supposed to be dead?" And he's all, "Yes it's a long story but really let me help you." Hmmm. To trust or not to trust the formerly dead guy with the misshapen neck? We're going to go with do not trust the man who sold his soul and is suddenly having second thoughts.

Andy informs Abbie that they can't kill the Horseman since he is the embodiment of Death but they can trap him. That's right around when Crane joins them and is like, "Aren't you supposed to be dead?" But he gets over his surprise quickly and tells Andy to give the Horseman the message to meet them at the cemetery at nightfall. Then they have a standoff, Crane warning Andy not to return. We guess Crane is with us on the whole not trusting that guy with the weird neck.

The manuscript, just happens to holds the secret to stop the Horseman. Huzzah! The secret is to summon a witch to turn the moon into the sun, which is the Horseman's weakness. But as they can't summon Katrina, and they don't know any other witches hanging around Sleepy Hollow, they're a bit stuck. Thankfully, the brilliant Abbie remembers that this is the 21st century, and we have this wonderful thing called artificial light.

Nightfall has come and the trio heads to the cemetery, luring the Horsemen out with the promise of his skull. Instead, Crane gallops off, and leads him down into an underground passageway, where they have laid a trap. The chase quickly turns into a game of hide-and-seek, with Abbie and Crane taunting the Horseman with the tons of decoy skulls they've set up in the passage. Finally, Abbie pretends that her ankle has been broken, drawing him into an open room where they expose him to the light and chain him up in his weakened state.

The episode ends there, rather abruptly, so we guess we'll just have to catch next week's episode to see how it all shakes out! SLEEPY HOLLOW airs Mondays at 9/8c on FOX.
