BWW Blog: Meet Tory Ross of KINKY BOOTS

Hi fabulous Broadway World Blog readers! Welcome to your behind-the-scenes snippets of Kinky Boots the musical as notated by me... Tory Ross! You may (not) remember me from such (non) pivotal roles as: Daphne the downer in 9 to 5 the Musical or a late-edition Hatchet Face in Cry-Baby or maybe you saw me sing tipsily at a gay bar benefit or maybe you've never heard of me but want to know everything about Kinky Boots cause it's AWESOME. No matter... welcome to my musings!

I flew back into New York City JUST before Blizzard Nemo (was it me, or did that get over-hyped a 'titch?) on Thursday night and found myself literally bouncing up and down in my seat, so giddy to get back into rehearsals for Kinky Boots the musical. Seriously you guys... I know you probably read statements all the time in which the actors gush that this is THE most SPECIAL experience EVAH... but for reals... this one is really special. The story, the people, THE Cyndi Lauper MUSIC, the incredible sets and costumes, THE SHOES, Jerry Mitchell, Harvey Fierstein and the Hirschfeld? C'mon. It's a dream come true.

I also just found out I have my own dressing room (wha?!), so I got on ebay this morning and started getting some fab British things to decorate. A London Bridge ceramic dish to hold my bobby pins? NEED IT. A Queen Elizabeth silhouette cross stitch kit? NEED IT. Before ye judge.. my character, the (non) pivotal role of Pat, is OBSESSED with the Royals. After you see the musical, you can judge if you see that layer in my performance. After I finish writing this blog, I am going back on eBay to start looking at all things British Gin-related. Pat loves that too.

We've only had two days of rehearsal thus far... but we've already staged a new song (see Caroline Bowman's hot pic below), and fallen right back into our Northampton characters and accents. In the middle of it, she does a rap and that's the part I get to do in the musical! With a British accent! It's amazing! You'll love it.

Lest I say too much too soon, I'd best take a gander at my script to start memorizing line changes before our official Meet and Greet tomorrow. So kinks, start stretching your calves and scouring the internet for a fabulous pair of Kinky Boots to wear to the show, cause you'll want to start breaking them in now!
