Variety reports that Luke Evans, who will soon be seen in the role of Gaston in Disney's live-action BEAUTY AND THE BEAST opposite Emma Watson, has signed on to the indie drama "State Like Sleep" alongside Michael Shannon.

Meredith Danluck will pen and direct the project which centers on "the basic need for human connection and love." Evans will portray "the sleazy owner and operator behind the mysterious club Lebellfleur. It's essentially a secret high class gentleman's club that a woman thinks holds the answers to her husband's death."

Production is set to get underway next week in Boston.

Evans is well known for his roles in "The Hobbit" and "Fast and Furious 7." He was recently seen on the big screen in "High Rise" and will star in the upcoming "The Girl on the Train" this October, followed by the thriller "Message From the King, which will have its world premiere at the Toronto Film Festival.
