Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost has been announced as a guest star in the 2014 DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special. Actors Natalie Gumede Gumede (Coronation Street, Ideal, Strictly Come Dancing), Faye Marsay (Pride, The White Queen, Fresh Meat), Nathan McMullen (Misfits,Casualty), and Michael Troughton (Breathless, The New Statesman), will also join Peter Capaldi and hJenna Coleman in Special.

Production on the Christmas special has begun, and it promises to be an action-packed, unmissable adventure.

Actor and Screenwriter Nick Frost has starred in many hit film and television roles, including Spaced, The World's End, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Cuban Fury and Paul.

Frost comments on the casting: "I'm so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special, I'm such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream 'No spoilers!' Every day on set I've had to silence my internal fan-boy squeals!"

Lead writer and executive producer Steven Moffat, says: "Frost at Christmas - it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the Tintin movie many years ago and it's a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the TARDIS."

Frost follows fellow actor and Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy star Simon Pegg in guest starring on DOCTOR WHO. If Frost's role is anything like Pegg's, he will be a leader of a semi-dystopic regime somewhere in space. However, I could also see Frost playing a role like previous DOCTOR WHO guest star James Corden, who played an unlikely hero during Matt Smith's reign as The Doctor. Based on the production photo released of Frost, I'd say it's likely he will be playing a good guy helping The Doctor and Clara to overcome a dangerous foe (my guess is he is the leader of a crew in space that gets caught in an difficult situation).

The DOCTOR WHO Christmas Special is written by Steven Moffat and directed by Paul Wilmshurst (Strike Back,Combat Kids). It will premiere on BBC One and around the world this Christmas.
