ABC's ROSEANNE Opens as the Season's Top Premiere and Drives Improvement Across Tuesday Night

ABC's Tuesday Primetime (8:00-11:00 p.m. - 9.9 million and 2.8/11 in AD18-49):
Driven by an impressive premiere for "Roseanne" leading to improvement across the night, ABC more than doubled its nearest Tuesday competition in Adults 18-49 (+155% - 2.8/11 vs. 1.1/5 - CBS and NBC tied). ABC aired the Top 3 shows of the night with young adults. ABC posted its strongest Tuesday with series programming in 4½ years - since 9/24/13.

  • Towering over NBC's "The Voice" and CBS' "NCIS" in the 8:00-9:00 p.m. hour to rank as Tuesday's No. 1 TV show, ABC's 1-hour premiere of "Roseanne" opened with an average audience of 18.2 million viewers and a 5.1/21 in Adults 18-49, building from its first half-hour to its second half-hour.
    • "Roseanne" scored Tuesday's top-rated entertainment telecast in 6 years with young adults - since 2/28/12.
    • "Roseanne" opened with TV's highest Adult 18-49 rating for any comedy telecast on any night in 3½ years - since CBS' "The Big Bang Theory" season opener on 9/22/14.
    • "Roseanne" delivered ABC's best results in the 1-hour time period since November 2006 in viewers and since November 2009 in young adults - since 11/14/06 and 11/3/09, respectively.
    • "Roseanne's" return built on its May 1997 finale telecast 21 years ago by 10% in Total Viewers (18.2 million vs. 16.6 million on 5/20/97), outdrawing its final 12 telecasts that season.
    • In viewers and young adults, "Roseanne" stands as the season's strongest premiere as well as the No. 1 regularly scheduled scripted telecast this season.
  • Dominating its slot with new season highs at 9:00 p.m., "black-ish" built for the 2nd consecutive week, shooting up by 123% in Total Viewers (8.7 million vs. 3.9 million) and by 136% in Adults 18-49 (2.6/10 vs. 1.1/4). ABC's "black-ish" drew its 2nd largest audience ever (behind only its series debut on 9/24/14) and its best young adult performance since November 2014 (since 11/19/14).
  • Winning the 9:30 p.m. half-hour, ABC's debut of "Splitting Up Together" more than doubled the year-ago midseason premiere in the slot of "Imaginary Mary" (on 4/4/17) with Total Viewers (+106% - 7.2 million vs. 3.5 million) and Adults 18-49 (+144% - 2.2/8 vs. 0.9/3), attracting the Net's best series numbers to the half-hour since 2013 - since 5/21/13 and 9/24/13, respectively. In addition, "Splitting Up Together" stood as ABC's best Tuesday comedy debut since September 2015 - since 9/22/15 with "The Muppets."
  • At 10:00 p.m., ABC's "For The People" spiked week to week by 33% in Total Viewers (3.6 million vs. 2.7 million) and by 50% in Adults 18-49 (0.9/4 vs. 0.6/3), marking new series highs.
