Have you ever dreamed of being on the War Memorial Opera House stage? San Francisco Opera is looking for adult supernumeraries (extras) to appear in the Company's upcoming Fall 2017 Season. An open audition will be held on Monday, July 31 beginning at 6 p.m. at the War Memorial Opera House. No previous experience is required and there is no fee to audition.

Supernumeraries, also known as supers, act as extras (in costume and make-up) on the stage in non-speaking, non-singing roles. Supers are volunteers, however an honorarium is provided to those cast in productions.

Supers will have the opportunity to rehearse and perform in one or more of San Francisco Opera's fall season operas, including a visceral production of Richard Strauss' Elektra, Jules Massenet's enchanting Manon, the highly anticipated world premiere of John Adams' Girls of the Golden West, and two repertory favorites, Giacomo Puccini's Turandot and Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata.

About San Francisco Opera's Fall 2017 Season

The 2017 Fall Season opens with Giacomo Puccini's masterpiece of fantasy and romanticism set in legendary Peking,Turandot (running September 8-30 and November 18-December 9). The casts feature Martina Serafin/Nina Stemme, Maria Agresta/Toni Marie Palmertree/Leah Crocetto and tenor Brian Jagde, who sings the famous aria "Nessun dorma." The exuberant production features sets and costumes designed by celebrated artist David Hockney.

Richard Strauss's 1909 opera Elektra (September 9-27) surges back onto the War Memorial Opera House stage for the first time in two decades in a provocative new production by English director Keith Warner. This psychologically complex and vocally formidable opera stars a superlative cast that includes soprano Christine Goerke, mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and soprano Adrianne Pieczonka.

San Francisco Opera Music Director Nicola Luisotti conducts the revival of John Copley's lavish production of Giuseppe Verdi's La Traviata (September 23-October 17) featuring three internationally acclaimed artists making their San Francisco Opera debuts: soprano Aurelia Florian, tenor Atalla Ayan and baritone Artur Ruci?ski.

After an absence of nearly two decades, Jules Massenet's romantic Belle Époque gem, Manon (November 4-22), returns to the War Memorial Opera House stage with a dynamic cast headed by soprano Ellie Dehn and tenor Michael Fabiano, conducted by Massenet specialist Patrick Fournillier and staged in a new production by Vincent Boussard.

From the composer of Nixon in China, The Death of Klinghoffer and Doctor Atomic, comes one of the musical season's most eagerly-anticipated events: the world premiere of Girls of the Golden West (November 21-December 10) by composer John Adams with a libretto drawn from period sources by director Peter Sellars. Set in historic mining sites within the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Girls of the Golden West explores the dramatic and often brutal stories of pioneers on California's Gold Rush frontier during the 1850s.
