Yes You Are Releases New Single BLACKLIGHT

Have you ever been so terrified of something that it literally haunted you for over a decade? Have you ever decided enough is enough, and believed in yourself so much that you changed the course? Yes You Are's Kianna Alarid has. And that terrifying experience was the muse for the new single, "Blacklight".

"I was 12 years old when I first started seeing the hooded entity in my room at night." explains Alarid. "It was terrifying and it happened often. It wasn't until a decade later, but I finally decided to put my foot down. I visualized a light inside of me and told the hooded figure that it didn't scare me anymore. It never happened again. Those occurrences always made me feel weak and powerless but after I stood up to it, I felt stronger than I ever had before. "Blacklight" is a song about finding that light in the dark places, and the mysterious feeling that maybe the darkness was working for you all along."

You've probably already heard Yes.You.Are. as their first single "HGX" debuted on Pepsi'sSuperbowl 51. The song was also featured in the hit movie Bad Moms, as well as FX's Tyrantand MTV's Scream.

"We play black pop." says Kianna Alarid, Yes You Are's intense front woman, "It implies that there might be shadows lurking, even in the shiny places." Listening to their upcoming album, it IS essentially pop, but they redefine the genre with each and every song. From gospel choirs to guitar-heavy rock to synth-covered dance rhythms, the mainstay (and mainstream friendly) sing-along hooks are what binds all of their work together.

Alarid cut her teeth in the critically-acclaimed indie band Tilly and the Wall, touring through the mid to late aughts with bands such as She and Him, Bright Eyes, Rilo Kiley, Of Montreal and CSS, playing venues around the world and hitting major festivals like Coachella, Japan's Summersonic, Iceland Airwaves, Reading, Leeds, Scotland's T In The Park and Australia's Splendor In The Grass as well as performing on Late Night with David Letterman and Sesame Street.

Yes You Are has shared the stage with the likes of K. Flay, Moon Taxi, Marion Hill, Lucius and Neon Trees.
