When the Monterey Jazz Festival wrapped up its 58th year last weekend, Yamaha Drums also concluded its season of providing new drum sets, hardware and extensive tech support at major jazz festivals in the United States. Models used include Absolute Hybrid Maple, Live Custom and Stage Custom Birch and after the festivals end, the drum sets are sold at local retailers.

From March to September every year, Yamaha helps ensure that the drums sound fabulous at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the Playboy Jazz Festival, the Xerox Rochester International Jazz Festival, the San Jose Jazz Summer Fest and the Monterey Jazz Festival. At Monterey, the world's longest running jazz festival, founded in 1958, Yamaha is the partner organization that has been with the event for the longest time. Each Year, these festivals attract more than 800,000 attendees.

"Yamaha drums have been the backbone and the back beat of this event as long as we can remember," said Jeff Sloan, manager of backline instruments and drums at the Monterey Jazz Festival. "Artists and audiences expect top quality sound and Yamaha drums always delivers that punch. It is an honor to work with their outstanding staff and amazing products year after year."

The events also give Yamaha the opportunity to pay tribute to the company's drum artists. At this year's San Jose Jazz Summer Fest, for example, Yamaha presented Terri Lyne Carrington with a bouquet of roses, which she displayed on the drum riser during her band's set on the Main Stage (photo included).
