June is getting Jazzy as The Nash's calendar heats up for the summer. The jazz club brings some new groups to the venue including Rachel Eckroth performing with Holly Pyle, Sloth Moth for First Friday and the fascinating Nautabot.

The month also marks the kick off of Big|Brave Band Wednesdays as the Superstition Jazz Orchestra will be the featured house band, inviting local writers and musicians to bring their large ensemble originals and work with the band who will be in residence all summer. The month will also include a touching tribute concert in remembrance of Valley Jazz legend Margo Reed on June 27th and a concert to launch a new vocal scholarship in her honor on June 21st.

June also is the kick off for The Nash Summer Workshops, with programs for instrumentalists, composers, vocalists and ensembles. Information and registration is available on the Nash's website.

As always, The Nash hosts mainstream and contemporary jazz concerts each weekend, with Sunday Jam Sessions each Sunday evening, and the Last Friday Late Night Jam on the last Friday of the month.

The Superstition Jazz Orchestra is the featured house band at the Nash every Wednesday night this summer (through Sept. 2nd). The band will hit at 7:30 pm and will be reading charts from the greatest writers from the big band world. Local writers are welcome to bring in large ensemble arrangements as well as originals. Mike Crotty will be available to critique them. During the second set, anyone who wishes to hone their sight reading skills can sit in for a tune or two. Band directors are always welcome to bring in their charts to hear them played before the 2014-2015 school year begins. The band will be in residence at The Nash all summer long. So come and join us for some great music, fun and all that is big band jazz!

Drawn to the music of Charlie Parker, Lester Young, and John Coltrane Peter & Will Anderson have performed with many of the jazz greats from Jimmy Heath, James Moody, and Clark Terry, to Benny Golson.

Headliners at Jazz at Lincoln Center, D.C.'s Blues Alley and the New Orleans Jazz Festival, their ensemble has performed in twenty-six U.S. States, and has been featured four times in the famed "Highlights in Jazz" series, alongside legends Lou Donaldson, the Heath Brothers, and Wycliffe Gordon. Their recording with Kenny Barron, The Music of the Soprano Masters with Bob Wilber and Correspondence was listed by Vanity Fair magazine in "Four New Releases to Make You Love Jazz." They return to the Nash for an incredible night of jazz, exhibiting their many gifts.

Chicago-born jazz guitarist Jeff Libman is an Instructor in the Department of Jazz Studies at Arizona State University. He holds a PhD in Music Education from ASU. As a jazz guitarist, Libman performs frequently in the Phoenix metropolitan area. He is a member of Running From Bears, a Phoenix-based jazz sextet committed to the performance of original compositions and arrangements. Libman's debut CD, entitled Not Even The Rain, has been featured on over a dozen major jazz radio stations, including KKJZ (Los Angeles) and placed on the JazzWeek Radio Report. In 2010, he performed at the international music festival Jam Sans Frontiere in Grenoble, France.

Frank Smith, (the Soulful Sax Guy) and Home Cookin' do a tribute to the soulful sax players featuring the music of King Curtiss, Hank Crawford, Maceo Parker, Stanley Turrentine, Eddie Harris and David Sanborn. Home Cookin' has 3 very talented musicians, Shea Marshall on Hammond B3, Eric Bart on guitar and Emerson Laffey on drums. Frank plays tenor, alto, soprano sax and flute. This will be a "movin' and groovin' concert!

Fête de la Musique began in Paris as a musical celebration to kick off the summer and is now held in over 700 cities around the world. In association with The Alliance Francaise and the Phoenix Sister Cities, Fete de la Musique comes to Phoenix at the Nash, featuring an array of local musicians performing a variety of styles.

The Nash hosts an afternoon party to remember the great Margo Reed and to kick off the establishment of a new Scholarship to foster jazz vocal talent. Proceeds and donations from the event will go towards the new Margo Reed Vocal Scholarship.

It will be a special night as jazz pianist, singer and songwriter Rachel Eckroth, arrives at The Nash with her eclectic, bold style. Raised in Phoenix, Rachel settled in NYC just a few years ago and has rapidly became a stellar recording artist. Just last year Downbeat Magazine praised her songs which "fully embrace the expressiveness and vulnerability of her voice. Her jazz background peeks through in the agile way she coaxes a melody, but the main focus is revealing emotion"(July, 2014) .

The Nash's Last Friday Late Night Jam Sessions showcase the wide array of talent in the Valley as musicians drop in, arriving from playing at an earlier gig or concert, and spontaneously perform with the band. These jam sessions give serious up-and-coming jazz musicians the ability to play with more experienced players and mentors and the public the ability to enjoy spontaneous high-level jazz performances with an "insider's" feel.
