"One of the best jazz bands in NY today," (Forbes), The Hot Sardines boogies onto The Eccles Center stage tonight, April 11. Foot-stomping - there's even a tap dancer - and brassy jazz sizzles as this young group resurrects the music of the 1920s, '30s and '40s, making it hot, hot, hot. Park City is privy to the sizzling Sardines' first ever U.S. tour. Show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling 435-655-3114 or online at EcclesCenter.org.

All the elements are here: a killer brass lineup; a rhythm section led by a stride-piano virtuoso; and a Parisian-born-and-bred front-woman, who sings and writes in English and French. The Sardines serve up a sound reminiscent of wartime Paris via New Orleans, or the other way around. Think Louis Armstrong, Django Reinhardt and Fats Waller. And there are some modern influences thrown into the mix, too. Straight-up jazz. Red-hot delivery. And the most American of musical genres with French inflection.

According to Popmatters, The Sardines are "Unforgettably wild [...] consistently electrifying. A live music powerhouse." And the Sunday Times (London) writes, "Evan 'Bibs' Palazzo and his sidemen know how to have fun without skimping on musicianship, while Miz Elizabeth delivers worldly-wise, Peggy Lee-ish vocals."

Joining Palazzo and Elizabeth on the band's debut, self-titled album (released October, 2014), are accomplished (from the ranks of Julliard, Berklee and NYU Jazz) musicians: Jason Prover (trumpet), Joe McDonough (trombone), Nick Myers (tenor saxophone, clarinet, flute), Sam Raderman (guitar, banjo), Evan "Sugar" Crane (bass, sousaphone), Alex Raderman (drums, percussion) and "Fast Eddy" Francisco (tap dancing). Joe McDonough and Sam Raderman do not tour with the band, but the rest of the posse will perform in Park City.

The Sardines have consistently sold out their NYC "home" stage of Joe's Pub and performed in arenas ranging from, the ultra-swank Top of the Standard (Boom Boom Room) and the internationally-known Montreal Jazz Festival to Symphony Hall in Boston, where they recently performed to sold-out audiences in collaboration with the Boston Pops.

Park City Institute presents electrifying jazz group The Hot Sardines on Saturday, April 11 at The George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center for the Performing Arts (1750 Kearns Blvd., Park City). Concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $69* (20-percent discount for seniors, ½ price tickets for children ages 16 and under; $5 seats are available in the Copper Section for Summit County students (K-12). Tickets and information are available at The Eccles Center box office, 435-655-3114 or www.ecclescenter.org.
