THE BROTHERS COMATOSE Release New Single HIGH HOPING
Ben Morrison says the collaboration with Melody Walker marks the band's largest songwriting partnership to date.
The Brothers Comatose have released their new single 'High Hoping,' out now on all digital and streaming platforms.
Singer-songwriter Ben Morrison says of the track, 'We wrote this song with our good friend Melody Walker - Grammy award winning songwriter who collaborated with Sierra Ferrell on American Dreamin. We all sat around in Addie's living room in Nashville, TN and got to work on this tune. We decided we wanted to have a more messagy and uplifting tune and a few hours later, we emerged with 'High Hoping.' It's the first time we've done such a large collaboration on a song and we're stoked on the way it came together.'
From day one, the band's ethos has always been simple: 'You're here, we're here, let's party!' Now, as the stages and audiences have grown, nothing has changed; only the parties are much, MUCH bigger. Bursting with relentless energy, lightning-fast picking, and a crowd-first attitude, the genre-blending outfit has turned their brand of high-octane acoustic music into a must-see movement.
Hailing from California, the band has had a long-held reverence for the traditions of bluegrass music. But being in their own ecosystem, so far away from the epicenter of bluegrass, they haven't been constrained by these same traditions. The result has been the emergence of 'GOLDENGRASS,' a term the band has fully embraced and used to describe this unique style of music, born out of bluegrass, but with the undeniable freedom and rock n' roll attitude of California.
At the heart of the band are brothers Ben and Alex Morrison, whose songs incorporate the best aspects of modern Americana music: poignant lyrics sung in close, blood harmony that create compelling, memorable melodies and conjure up images of well-worn highways and the vast American experience. The recent addition of the band's first 'sister,' Addie Levy, rounds out their rich blend with her clear, Appalachian-soaked high harmonies and a driving mandolin chop steeped in bluegrass. Soaring above it all is the controlled mayhem of Philip Brezina's violin, whose improvised, blistering solos bring the rawness and rebelliousness of a rock n' roll guitarist. And underneath it all is Steve Height on upright bass, whose unwavering, workman-like thump will make you swear (or wish!) you were at a back porch hootenanny drinking out of a jug.
From down-home bluegrass/folk festivals, to mainstream pop/country festivals, to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, the Brothers Comatose have earned their reputation as the go-to for folks who want to kick up the dirt and bask in the good vibes of their live shows - an experience that proves bluegrass isn't just a tradition to be preserved, but a celebration meant to be blown wide open.
