Soundgarden and Audioslave Frontman Chris Cornell Dies at 52

Variety reports that Soundgarden and Audioslave frontman Chris Cornell passed away late Wednesday evening, May 17th at the age of 52. Details of his death have not been disclosed, however it is known that he died in Detroit after performing with his longtime band Soundgarden. According to local police, the death may have been a suicide.

According to Detroit's WXYZ, police say Cornell's wife asked a friend to check on him. When the friend arrived, he had to force open the door, only to find the musician on the bathroom floor. Cornell was pronounced dead at the scene.

A rep for the singer issued the following statement early this morning: "Chris Cornell passed away late Wednesday night in Detroit, MI. His wife Vicky and family were shocked to learn of his sudden and unexpected passing, and they will be working closely with the medical examiner to determine the cause. They would like to thank his fans for their continuous love and loyalty and ask that their privacy be respected at this time."

We have lost an innovative member of our creative community, and our sincerest condolences go out to Chris' family, friends, collaborators, and all who have been impacted by his outstanding artistry.
