Sara Bareilles Earns Songwriters Hall of Fame 2018 Hal David Starlight Award

According to Billboard, singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is the 2018 recipient for The Songwriters Hall of Fame's 2018 Hal David Starlight Award. This award is awarded to "gifted young songwriters who are making a significant impact in the music industry via their original songs,", says the official press release announcement. The ceremony is set for June 14 in NYC, and inductees include Robert "Kool" Bell, Bill Anderson, Ronald Bell, Jermaine Dupri, John Mellencamp, George Brown and James "JT" Taylor, Stephen Dorff, Alan Jackson and Allee Willis. Since her 2007 debut, Little Voice, which reached #1 in 22 countries around the world, the Eureka, CA native has gone on to release a New York Times best-selling book, Sounds Like Me - My Life (so far) in Song, and five studio albums, including her most recent, What's Inside: Songs from Waitress. For Waitress, she received a Tony Award nomination for Best Original Score, Drama Desk Award nominations for Outstanding Music and Outstanding Lyrics, an Outer Critics Circle Award nomination for Outstanding New Score, and a Grammy Award nomination for Best Musical Theater Album. Most recently, Bareilles wrote the original song "If I Dare" featured in Fox Searchlight's 2017 movie, Battle of the Sexes.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame celebrates songwriters, educates the public with regard to their achievements, and produces a spectrum of professional programs devoted to the development of new songwriting talent through workshops, showcases and scholarships. Out of the tens of thousands of songwriters of our era, there are approximately 400 inductees who make up the impressive roster enshrined in the Hall of Fame.
