Renowned jazz violinist Regina Carter will share the stage with the Oakland Jazz Quartet and the Oakland University Chamber Orchestra for a night of jazz with an orchestral hue on Saturday, Jan. 18 on the campus of Oakland University. The concert will feature some selections from Carter's new album, to be released in March, and will also include a mix of chamber jazz string arrangements.

Carter, a Grammy nominee and a 2006 recipient of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship, is an OU alumna and native of Detroit. She combines dazzling technical proficiency with a fresh approach to her instrument and a multicultural perspective.

As an artist-in-residence at the university, Carter returns each year to teach master classes and to perform. The event, set for 8 p.m. on Jan. 18, will take place in Varner Recital Hall on Oakland's campus. Maps of the campus are available at oakland.edu/map or by searching for "Varner Hall" on a smartphone. Ample free parking will be available.

Tickets are $20 general admission and $10 for students. A special two-for-one ticket is available through Living Social at tinyurl.com/OULivingSocial. The concert is free to registered participants of Oakland University's Strings Day. Tickets can be purchased in advance with no service fees at startickets.com or by phone at (800) 585-3737. They can also be purchased at the Center for Student Activities Service Window in the Oakland Center or at the Varner Hall Box Office.
