By:

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts will open a new season of Keyboard Conversations with Jeffrey Siegel with a performance of Gershwin and Friends on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are available for $29 or $39 online at www.ScottsdalePerformingArts.org or through the Patron Services Box Office at (480) 499-TKTS (8587). A discounted package price also is available when purchasing tickets to all four 2011-12 Keyboard Conversations in one order.

Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as "the Leonard Bernstein of the keyboard," Jeffrey Siegel has charmed seasoned aficionados and newcomers to classical music alike as the star of Keyboard Conversations, a series of concerts blending performance with lively commentary. Siegel offers witty insight into the lives of the great composers, explaining each work before performing it in its entirety. The concert also features Keyboard in the Sky,TM a video projection above the stage that enables the audience to see the pianist's hands moving across the keyboard in real time from any seat in the theater.

Gershwin and Friends features musical gems by some of America's greatest composers, including the glorious melodies and jazzy rhythms of George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in the composer's rarely heard solo piano arrangement, Aaron Copland's humorous Cat and the Mouse and Hoe-Down from Rodeo, Leonard Bernstein's touching Anniversaries, Scott Joplin's Wall Street Rag and more.

A Steinway Artist and soloist with the world's great orchestras, Siegel has presented his Keyboard Conversations series in London and from coast to coast throughout the United States, including more than 30 seasons in Scottsdale. He has been featured on the BBC and Oprah Radio's Dr. Oz Show and was the subject of the PBS television special titled Keyboard Conversations: Piano Treasures, produced by Time Life in association with Grammy and Emmy Award-winning director Steve Purcell.

Upcoming Keyboard Conversations at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts include:

A Beethoven Bonanza - Jan. 17, 2012, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.

From Heart to Art: The Romantic Music of Franz Liszt - Feb. 14, 2012, Tuesday, 7:30 p.m.
