New Play About Finding Salvation Premieres Tonight at The Chelsea Hotel

Critically acclaimed actor/writer Elizabeth Pugh will premiere her new play, 222 w. 23rd St., at Dixon Place tonight, December 16th, at 7:30 pm. Directed by Audrey Rapoport.

222 W. 23rd St., written and performed by Pugh, is a play about a woman who, on the brink of homelessness, lands at the Chelsea Hotel, unaware of its famed history, seedy reputation and colorful residents. When she is unable to get her life "together" her rent becomes in arrears and her whole existence hinges on keeping the hotel manager, Stanley Bard, from kicking her out.

The performance takes place at Dixon Place, 161A Chrystie Street (Between Rivington & Delancey), New York, NY 10002. Subways: F to 2nd Avenue, B/D to Grand Street, J/Z to Bowery, 6 to Spring, M to Essex.

Elizabeth Pugh (Writer/Performer) is an actor, writer, singer, and songwriter. She wrote and performed the solo-show I'm Not Finished...yet, a one-woman play which ran in NYC and Dublin, Ireland and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it played to sold-out audiences and rave reviews. Academy-Award winning director Jim Sheridan (Writer/Director of My Left Foot) co-produced the solo-show when it played at the Edinburgh Fringe.

Elizabeth learned to sing and play guitar while busking on the streets of Ireland. She has played in festivals, seedy bars, five-star hotels, coffee shops, and benefit shows worldwide. Elizabeth opened for Mark Geary (Irish Singer/Songwriter), and Dan Bern (American Guitarist/Singer/Songwriter) Lou Plaia, co-founder of Reverbnation, an organization that helps nurture & foster musical talent, heard Elizabeth sing in a hotel lobby. Plaia was so inspired by what he heard, he put Elizabeth up as a featured artist on Reverbnation even though she had no recordings. She is currently in pre-production to record her EP.
