Music Slingshot Artist Hello June Announces Debut Album & Shares Video via NPR Image

Today, NPR Music has announced Hello June's debut album Hello June, which will be released September 28; available aside the announcement is the video for lead single "Mars," created by Hello June frontwoman and mastermind Sarah Rudy. To celebrate today's news, Hello June is today taking over NPR Music's Instagram story; follow along with that here. Of "Mars," NPR Music says "[it] is a song worthy of national attention. It's a pulsating slice of 1990s comfort food that will shake the stardust from your heartstrings."

At the start of this year, West Virginia Public Broadcasting/NPR program Mountain Stagenominated Morgantown, WV duo Hello June to NPR Music's Slingshot initiative, which promises to support emerging talent (other artists involved include Phoebe Bridgers, Sudan Archives, and Hatchie) through the efforts of NPR member stations including KEXP, KCRW, WFUV, and many more. Learn more about Slingshot here.

Hello June is an indie rock band formed in the hills of Morgantown, WV after core members Sarah Rudy (guitar/vocals) and Whit Alexander (drums) met as tenants of a particularly communal apartment building located at 233 Spruce St. Their debut six-song EP, Spruce, fittingly unfolds as if an expression of self-discovery, where languid reflection is never as far from catharsis as it seems. NPR hailed the EP for its mix of driving, indomitable hooks and ethereal, sustained tones, saying it "displays [Hello June's] blend of bright, blissful rock that shimmers, even throughout its darker moments."

The band is part of the 2018 NPR Slingshot class-a designation given to exceptional up-and-coming artists-and the Spruce single "Dance" was featured in the March 2017 edition of NPR's Heavy Rotation series. The duo's danceable-yet-dark rock sound has been likened to a cocktail of Modest Mouse, Jason Molina, and Beach House. Hello June arrives September 28.
